Submission statement: I found this on the internet. It appears to be a twitter post by someone calling themselves a Neoliberal Rat Goddess. It asserts that banning incest because of birth defects is eugenics. It is bizarre to me, but I wonder - is it accurate? What motivates such a statement to be made? Is it someone just trying to be technically correct, or is this someone who has motivation to defend incest? I have not yet looked up the account or the post to see if it is real.
Eugenics definitely is practiced, has been practiced many times throughout history. I tend to believe it technically does alter the makeup of a group - inherited traits and mutations do appear to be real.
And my understanding is that incest, anything nearer than like 3rd cousins or something around there iirc, does statistically produce illness, deformities, disease, etc.
What is the motivation behind the taboos around incest? Beyond those edicts handed down from supernatural authorities or their figureheads in human institutions, is it functionally just about eugenics?

Comment that generally describes where I am, haha.
Even in normal conversation, it's difficult to stay completely out of politics while having a meaningful conversation...but it isn't everything. There are plenty of other things that give life meaning.
Same applied to religion when I lived in the south (US), though religion rarely ever comes up at all now that I live in the west.
Comedy is most enjoyable when it's relatable. I've moved around a lot, had a variety of experiences, known a variety of people...so I like comedy covering a variety of things; never too much of any one subject, or one comedian for that matter.
I mention this because I genuinely wonder about the opposite end of the spectrum. To someone with a less varied life, for instance some of the people back home who would seemingly obsess over nothing but how much they hated certain groups, political affiliations, other religions, public figures...
Comedians, politicians, anchors, ect who do the same thing are probably just as satisfying to them, because they would be relatable.
It does feel good to think that someone understands you.

that is true, however peace accords that the US made itself one of the 3 co guarantor must be respected, and when the torys are willing to break international law and effectivly scrap that peace accord, its always nice for the co guarentors to apply pressure to protect that accord

Like I said, it isn't something that I hear talked about. I haven't read up on what all agreements and compacts the US government has signed and is enforcing or not enforcing. If we made an agreement, then we should adhere to it to the letter - unless it is morally/ethically wrong. I assume you know much more about it than I do, even if my country's politicians in the past were a part of the process.

Ehhhhh, I don't know how I feel about calling Assange a journalist. While I do appreciate the original mission of Wikileaks and thank him for things like Collateral Murder, it's pretty obvious at some point he was either compromised by Russia or decided to work with them
He's the one that pushed the Seth Rich murder conspiracy theory into the mainstream, lying that Seth was the source of the leaked emails even though he knew it was Russia. Even if he didn't know it was Russia (which he did), the leaker transferred the emails 4 days after Seth was murdered, and he continued to talk to the leaker after Seth's murder
I don't think he should be charged with espionage for the Afghanistan War leaks or extradited, I just think calling him a journalist is not the right choice of word. He probably should be charged for working with Russia to interfere in the 2016 election if there are statues he could be charged under for that.
